Alpine Lady-fern

  • Elegant tufted plant, leaves up to 80 cm tall, very close to the Lady Fern
  • Fragile blade, with pinnules finely cut
  • Short green stalk, with scales
  • Sori circular, indusia rudimentary, rapidly disappearing

  • Growth in spring, fructification in summer, fronds disappearing in fall
  • On acidic rocky soils
  • Shaded slopes, sheltered screes, from 1000 m up to more than 2000 m in elevation
  • Picture taken on the Pré Rateau trail (1500 m), in an open wooded gully, among boulders. Seems to be the first observation in Vercors (Confirmation by R. Prelli).
