Beech Fern

  • Leaves from 15 to 40 cm tall, on a creeping rhizome
  • Blade triangular, light green
  • The two lower pinnulae swallow-tail shaped, very characteristic
  • Sori round, no indusia

  • Growth in spring, fructification in summer, disappearing in fall
  • Moist slopes on acidic soils, up to an elevation of 2000 m
  • Seems to be rare in Vercors. One site known at "Les Ecouges": shaded slope with sandy soil (miocene mollasse )
